Teen in coma after horror dirt bike crash

MIRANI lad Glen Vezzoli and Proserpine's Anthony Pendlebury were doing what they loved when it took a horror turn, ending with Glen in a coma and Anthony in an intensive care unit.

Riding their dirt bikes at Crystal Brook on March 4, the two collided and the boys now have years of rehabilitation and treatment ahead of them.

Glen's sister Kerrie said Anthony was "recovering well" but would need extensive surgery on damaged nerves and rehabilitation in Brisbane with specialists.

"Glen is still in a coma, in a serious but currently stable condition, and at present we know for sure he will be needing specialist care for the serious injuries to his leg," she said on March 13.

"However, as Glen is not awake yet we can not determine the seriousness of any other injuries he has incurred. Regardless of this we know there will be lots of travel and accommodation costs as well as rehabilitation costs involved."

Glen's girlfriend, Taleah Webster, has set up a GoFundMe page that has already received more than $5000 in donations and is well on the way to reaching its $10,000 target.

Proserpine lad Anthony Pendlebury will need further operations.

Community members have also begun organising a fundraiser for Anthony and Glen.

The VMR Whitsunday has donated the use of their licensed facility on Altmann Ave, opposite the police station, on April 15 to hold a family afternoon, with an auction to be held in the evening.

So far donations of auction lots total well over $6000 and many more donations are expected to be made before April 15.

Donations can also be made via the GoFundMe page. Search "Recovery for Glen and Anthony".
